Pro-social & Multi-age Learning Environments

It was almost 10 years ago that our school district embarked on a journey to create an Education Plan that would respond to the changing needs of our students.

Through extensive consultation with thousands of stakeholders, including parents, teachers, principals, senior staff, university professors and researchers, we developed six pathways to learning to inspire students to explore, discover and develop themselves as complete learners.

Our Education Plan is a living document that we refresh every few years to ensure our pathways continue to be informed by the most up-to-date research and feedback from our school community.

Part of our plan reflects a shift that has occurred in education. Whereas most parents remember a more isolated approach to learning with single grade classrooms and desks separated in rows, recent research has shown that there is an inextricable link between social emotional competence and school success.

To that end, you will see our classrooms are pro-social environments where multi-age students work together to think critically, create, collaborate, contribute and learn — all while developing the social emotional skills that will give each child the best chance in life.
