Mamquam Elementary Spring Song "Follow the Light"

Have you ever looked at a seed and wondered what it might feel like to push through the earth and bloom into a flower?
The Mamquam Elementary school community of 300 students had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with the extraordinarily talented Hayley from Texada Music to create our original song, “Follow the Light.” Hayley guided students in making music in wonderfully creative ways — using pencil tapping, clapping, stomping, tossed bean bags, and many other imaginative sounds to build the soundtrack. Layered into that are the beautiful voices of our students, whose singing brought the lyrics to life.
This project became such a powerful representation of the Mamquam school community. Seeing the pride, joy, and wonder on the faces of students, families, and friends was a moving reminder of how meaningful school-wide creative experiences can be. Projects like this help students feel seen, connected, and part of something bigger than themselves — a feeling captured so beautifully in the lyric, “I’ve got the whole world in me.”
