SD48 Accessibility Committee Parent Representative Application

Under British Columbia's Accessible B.C. Act, all school districts must have an Accessibility Committee, an Accessibility Plan, and a feedback mechanism by September 2023 to identify, remove, and prevent barriers for people with disabilities, with committees ideally including people with disabilities and Indigenous members, fostering inclusive environments across learning, work, and community spaces. These committees advise districts on improving participation for all, guided by the principle "Nothing About Us Without Us". The SD48 District Parent Advisory Council is recruiting parent representatives to sit on this committee.

  • Mandate: Assist the district in identifying barriers and advising on removal/prevention.
  • Composition: Should reflect BC's diversity, with at least half members with disabilities or supporting them, and at least one Indigenous person.
  • Outputs: Develop and review the district's Accessibility Plan, review feedback, and guide strategies for inclusion.
  • Length of commitment – attend up to 4 meetings per year for 2 years.

Please ensure you would be available for virtual or in person meetings scheduled for 2025/2026 school year:

  • January 8th, 2026 from 3:30-4:30 pm
  • March 5th, 2026 from 3:30-4:30 pm
  • May 7, 2026 from 3:30-4:30 pm

DPAC will choose up to FIVE  parent representatives for this volunteer committee. We will do our best to ensure we have parent representatives available to attend each meeting by filling in spaces as needed throughout the year. The hope is that each member commits to a TWO year role and that we have representation from each community across the Sea to Sky School District.
