24 Hour Drum: Growing Together Through Culture

On May 26th, Indigenous Youth Leadership students, staff, families and elders from Pemberton Secondary School, Xet̓ólacw Community School, Whistler Secondary School and Howe Sound Secondary came together at Totem Hall on the ancestral territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw to honour and celebrate culture at the 24-Hour Drum event.

The vibrant and rhythmic beats of drums filled the air while the group sang and danced. In addition to drumming, singing and dancing, the event offered various interactive workshops where participants could learn and engage in cedar weaving, wool weaving, making plant gummies, painting and more.

Participants walked to the nearby Land School for a salmon BBQ, and the incredible scenery served as the perfect backdrop to close the day.
